THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF POSTMODERN CERAMICS, 2002

A few words from organizer:
The organizes are KERAMEIKON, Croatian Ceramic Association in collaboration with the City Museum of Varazdin and support of the "Neue Keramik" and Mr Gustav Weiss from Berlin.
Artist were expected to show creativity, originality and poetry in approach, the buoyancy of imagination and the favour for fantasy in designing and shaping, as well as clear handling of colour. Soft porcelain paste was recommended for modelling, but was not obligatory.
An international jury met in Zagreb and Berlin. After careful evaluation 90 artists from allover the world were selected among 204 applications.
The organizers invited special guest artists as well as the most prominent Croatian artists.
This exhibitions is conceived as a small contribution to new art movements labelled as postmodern (Jencks, 1976).
Seeking a move away from the receptacle and its use, ceramics is now being introduced respecting historical achievements and styles, with elaboration and original contribution within the explosion of the multiple, acknowledging the "double code" ( elitist/popular, old/new) and by constructing a new, original, specific art expression of ceramics. Thus, ceramics established its individual, equally significant place among other arts.
